Community Outreach

I deliver outreach yoga classes, therapeutic movement programs, and embodied education workshops to charities, community health organisations, and NHS services across Edinburgh, the Lothians, and the Scottish Borders.

With a degree in Psychology and over a decades of experience working in mental health and addiction recovery, my approach blends evidence-informed practice with accessible, compassionate, community-based support.

In 2018 I completed the Trauma Centre Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) Foundation Training—an internationally recognised, empirically validated, yoga-based clinical intervention for complex trauma. TCTSY draws upon trauma theory, attachment theory, neuroscience, and hatha yoga, with a strong emphasis on body-based inquiry, interoception, and supportive breathing practices.

Alongside TCTSY, I have completed additional training including:

  • Introduction to Yoga for Addiction Recovery with Lara Ederer (Yoga Medicine)

  • The Yoga of 12-Step Recovery (Y12SR) with Nicky Myers

  • CPD training with Health in Mind, Rape Crisis, Women’s Aid, NHS, Rowan Alba, SAMH, and Venture Trust

  • Training in Non-Violent Communication (NVC)

(See About Me for a full list of qualifications.)

I am a member of the PVG Scheme (Disclosure Scotland) and hold certificates in Outdoor First Aid, First Aid in the Workplace, and Mental Health First Aid.

Trauma-Informed Yoga Classes

I offer trauma-informed yoga designed specifically for community groups, support services, and individuals recovering from trauma, addiction, or chronic stress.

These sessions focus on:

  • Choice-based movement and gentle invitational language

  • Rebuilding interoceptive awareness

  • Supportive breath practices and movement

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Creating a safe and empowering environment

  • Relationship building and peer connection

Trauma-informed sessions can be delivered as mat-based or chair-based classes and adapted for specific group needs..

Neuroscience of Stress & Trauma Workshops

These educational workshops explore the science of stress, trauma, and the nervous system in a way that is accessible, practical, and immediately useful.

Topics include:

  • How chronic stress and trauma affect our brain and body

  • Polyvagal theory and nervous system patterns

  • Why “bottom-up” approaches (movement, breath, sensation) support regulation

  • How interoception and neuroplasticity influence recovery, resilience, and connection

Workshops can be delivered as stand-alone sessions or packaged with yoga, movement, or mindfulness sessions.

These sessions are ideal for staff, volunteers, people experiencing ongoing stress or folk in recovery.

Resourcing and Regulating Workshops

I facilitate practical, hands-on sessions teaching simple techniques for resourcing and regulating:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Stress reduction and burnout prevention

  • Breathwork and grounding strategies

  • Building sustainable self-care habits

  • Creating a home practice that is realistic and supportive

These sessions are ideal for staff, volunteers, people experiencing ongoing stress or folk in recovery.

Land-Connection & Nature-Based Practices

Throughout all of my sessions, land connection is gently woven into the experience, supporting grounding, presence, and a deeper sense of belonging. In addition to integrating these practices into yoga and wellbeing programmes, I also offer dedicated land-based wellbeing sessions that focus on grounding, connection, and sensory awareness in nature.

These sessions draw upon my background in therapeutic horticulture, outdoor therapy training, and my own lived experience of working closely with the land, particularly through my work at Lauriston Agroecology Farm in North Edinburgh. This combination of practice, training, and hands-on engagement informs a calm, embodied approach that invites participants to reconnect with themselves through nature, place, and the more-than-human world.

These include:

  • Mindfulness walks

  • Nature-connection practices

  • Fire and cacao or herbal tea making

  • Seasonal self-care

  • Slow, accessible movement in nature

  • Embodied land-connection exercises

These practices are particularly supportive for individuals recovering from stress, grief, trauma, or social isolation.

Chair Yoga

Chair-based yoga is an inclusive, low-impact practice suitable for:

  • Older adults

  • Adults with limited mobility

  • Anyone who finds floor-based movement challenging

Sessions focus on mobility, breath, steadying the mind, and building confidence in movement.

Fall & Balance Prevention

I provide an 8-week yoga-therapy-informed course for mobile older adults, focusing on the principles of balance and fall prevention. Sessions can be chair or mat based and include:

  • Techniques for improving balance, flexibility, and stability

  • Tools to safely catch yourself during a loss of balance

  • Self-care practices after a fall

  • Proprioceptive training

  • Healthy habit discussions

  • Support building a home practice
